0771 How to export the Cardex Database

In many cases, you may want to export the Cardex to a text file or to Excel.  Although you cannot directly export the cardex to Excel; you can export the cardex to a text file and then open it with Excel.

Exporting the Cardex records to a text file

  1. Open Point.
  2. From the Menu bar, select Utilities > Cardex Database.
  3. From the Menu bar, select File > Export.
  4. In the Export Custom ASCII window, keep the default options.
    (The default settings will export the cardex as a comma delimited text file.)



  5. Click Export.
  6. In the Export Cardex window, go to the Save in dropdown list and select Desktop.
  7. In the File name field, keep the filename as Pointcardex.txt and click Save. This exports the Cardex records to a file on the Desktop called Pointcardex.txt.



Opening the Exported file with Excel

  1. Open Microsoft Excel.
  2. From the menu bar, select File > Open.



  3. From the Open dialog, select All Files from the File Type dropdown list.
  4. Browse to the text file that you exported from Point and double-click on it.





  5. Excel will open the Import Wizard for you to import the file.
  6. From Step 1 of 3: Select Delimited and then click Next.



  7. From Step 2 of 3: Check the Comma check box and remove the check from the Tab check box.



  8. From Step 3 of 3: Click Next.



  9. Excel will display the Cardex records that you imported.
