0513 Generating reports with Excel spreadsheets causes an error

SYMPTOM

Constantly generating a report that has an Excel spreadsheets attached will eventually cause an error when switching from the Templates tab, to the Loans tab in the Navigation Panel.

CAUSE

  • Point 7.4SP5 and below: There is an issue with the Microsoft Excel plug-in that Point uses to connect with Excel. This plug-in to Microsoft Excel causes Point to crash when repeatedly generating a report with an Excel spreadsheet attached.
  • Point 7.4SP6: Microsoft Excel does not launch when the report is configured to generate the results in a new Excel spreadsheet. Please follow the resolution.

RESOLUTION

For Point 7.4SP5 and below

If you are using Point 7.4SP5 or below; upgrade to Point version 7.4SP6, which has corrected the issue that Point closes with an error after constantly generating reports. Please see Installing Point 7.4 Service Pack 6.

For Point 7.4SP6

Reports that are configured to generate the results in a new Excel spreadsheet causes an error. Please complete the following procedure to resolve:

  1. From the left navigation panel, select the Templates tab.
  2. From the Templates section, select Report & Marketing.
  3. Double-click the report you are using that generates the error.
  4. In the Output Options section, select the option Result in a pre-formatted Excel file.


  5. Click New and select Create New Excel File.
  6. Enter a filename for the Excel Spreadsheet and then click OK.


  7. Close the Excel Spreadsheet when it opens.
  8. Save the report template.
  9. Go back to the Report & Marketing tab from the left navigation panel and re-select your report.
  10. Click Generate to generate the results in a new Excel spreadsheet.
