SYMPTOM

When opening a Point file, an error appears: "The file is being used by someone else. Do you want to open the file as READ-ONLY mode?"

CAUSE

The file is locked or you do not have full access to it.

RESOLUTION

• Restart the server if you are on a network with a server.
• Restart your computer if you are not on a network.
• Worst case scenario, you can open the file as read-only.  When the file is open, click File > Save As, and enter a new filename.  You will be able to open and edit the new file that you copied but the original file will still be locked in read-only mode until you restart your computer, server, or your network administrator resolves the issue.
